Work Experience:  Students in grades 9 – 12 can earn elective credit for work.  One-half credit (.50) is earned for every 200 hours of properly recorded employment .

How do I sign up for Work Experience?

  1. Complete and return a Work Experience application to the coordinator

  2. Submit copies of each pay stub within one week of receiving it

  3. Copies must include the   student’s full name, company’s name, pay period, and number of hours worked

  4. Complete a Log Sheet for each paycheck stub submitted.  This is a record of your attendance (i.e., your schedule).

 How will I be graded?

  • A letter grade will be issued at the end of each block.  Employers will be sent an evaluation form each block.  The employer will evaluate the student/employee on a scale of

  • 1-5 in the following areas:  Work Ethics (30%), Work Place Competencies (40%) and Interpersonal Skills (30%).

  • Students may not receive a passing grade if they do not have the minimum number of documented hours by the end of the block.  The hours are cumulative, so if more hours are recorded, the student may receive credit in subsequent blocks.

What if I lose my job or change employers?

  • Students must submit a new, complete application every time they change or add a job. Hours for work from an employer with no application on file in the Work Experience office will not be accepted

  • The new application must be received within one week of the new employment

What kind of employment will be accepted?

  • Employment by a public or private business or corporation.  Babysitting, self-employment, etcetera, will not be accepted

  • Students must be paid with a check, not cash

How many credits can I earn?

  • Students may earn a maximum of two (2.00) full elective credits throughout their high school education.
