Exploratory Art;    Course #6180

Prerequisite: None - Lab Fees:  $5.00

Students will research art history, render, and sculpt, based on scientific art theories, children’s art, historical research and self-expression.  Through participation in artistic discussion, production and exploration of various children’s art mediums, fine art mediums and artists, students will achieve new skills and expand their sense of self-expression and artistic style as they interpret each assignment.  Students will create a portfolio of children’s activities lesson plans, which will include the sciences, arts and nutrition.

Students will render, watercolor, sculpt and design based on scientific art theories, historical research and self-expression.  Through participation in artistic discussion, production and exploration of various fine art mediums and artists, students will achieve new technical skills and expand their sense of self-expression and artistic styles as they interpret each assignment.

This class introduces students to the basic fundamentals of a variety of art techniques and crafts.  Students work hands-on on a variety of media including drawing, printmaking, mask making, jewelry design and other crafts.  This class may be repeated for credit.

Prerequisite: None

Students learn about the spoken word through logical argument, storytelling, poetry reading, and dramatic improvisations.  The class is designed to build skills in the delivery of speeches and develop the oratory skills needed to build opinions and debate.  A written paper demonstrating either process analysis or logical argument is required.  Activities will include hands-on projects and exercises, cooperative exercises with other students and work individually building the oratory skills of students.  The class may be repeated for credit

Students will draw, sculpt and design based on classroom research of historical art movements, Elements and Principles of Design and Color Theory.  Through participation in artistic discussion and production and exploration of various sculpting mediums, students will achieve new technical skills and expand their sense of self-expression.

 
 

Child and Human Development;    Course #9400

Prerequisite: None

The areas of instruction for this class include the study of children, selecting a mate, decisions before parenthood, environmental influences and heredity, pregnancy and prenatal care, prenatal health hazards, childbirth and the newborn.  The course emphasizes related health issues to each area of instruction. Completion of the class satisfies the Health requirement for Nevada high school graduation, but may not be accepted for academic credit by a postsecondary institution.
