Ballet; Course #6855

This course will develop correct body
alignment through the basics of classical ballet technique and style
as well as stretching and toning the body combining elements from
ballet, yoga, resistance training and Pilates. Barre work, center
work, port de bras, pirouettes, allegro, adagio and vocabulary will
all be introduced. Emphasis will be placed on technique, musicality
and artistic performance including principles of placement, alignment
and aesthetics. This course can be taken to satisfy a P.E.
requirement, and may be repeated for credit.

Intro to Drama; Course

This course is an introduction to the theatre,
basic terminology, and the building blocks for acting in the
theatre. Emphasis will be on observation skills, ensemble building,
pantomime skills and Reader’s Theatre. Major projects include an
individual pantomime performance in class and a group prepared
Reader’s Theatre piece. This course can be taken to satisfy a
Humanities requirement.

This course will introduce students to the
arts of stagecraft and set design. This includes safety, use of
tools, set construction, and an overview of lighting, sound, and stage
management, if time permits. Students will be actively involved in
building sets for the Performing Arts productions, as well as
completion of their own, in class projects. Students will be required
to pass a safety test before operating any equipment or constructing a
set. This course can be taken to satisfy a Humanities requirement.

style and technique of jazz dance. Students will learn steps and
terminology, technique and performance skills. The students will also
learn and perform a variety of the jazz dance forms including lyrical,

This course will focus on play structure,
script analysis for performance as well as for technical requirements
and dramaturgy. Student will, as a group, analyze a script in class
and will be expected to participate in discussions, readings, and
staved-readings of the piece. The second half of this course will
focus on dramaturgy – the research and analysis that goes into
performing period pieces and new works, as well as some popular
plays. Students will work in groups and analyze assigned plays,
including creating a 10-minute performance piece that encompasses the
play’s main through line as their main project. This course can be
taken to satisfy a Humanities requirement.

vehicle to exhibit a variety of dance styles. Students will develop
their technical skills through practice and preparation for

for the stage and screen. Students will participate daily in writing
activities and exercises, and will ultimately produce several scenes,

Students will work as a close ensemble to
adapt a piece of literature: a short story, novel, poem, song, or
children’s book for performance. All students will be expected to
participate in discussions, group activities, exploratory games, and
creating the piece. Students will work in smaller groups on their own
projects, and then as a class on an ensemble piece. This course is
similar to playwriting, however, no actual scripts will be
written. The entire performance is created organically as an
ensemble. This course can be taken to satisfy a Humanities
requirement.

Ensemble Acting; ; Course

This course will focus on the rehearsal to
performance aspects of a production through the use of the One Act
script. Students will be chosen as directors, they will be assigned a
play, and then will audition the rest of the class. All students
taking this course will either be directing a one act or performing in
one. Students will ultimately perform their completed piece during an
Evening of One Acts for parents and friends as a fund-raiser for the
department. All aspects of an actual performance must be incorporated
into these productions, including, but not limited to, blocking,
memorization, characterization, costumes, props, sets, and the ability
to work as a team. Students will be graded on the final performance
of the piece – either as a director or as an actor.

This course is designed to develop each
student’s individual talents and personalized style. The students
will work individually, as well as with the entire group. Each
student will take developing choral sound for performance. Students
are responsible for bringing their own music and will be graded on
their participation. This course can be taken to satisfy a
Humanities requirement, and may be repeated for credit.

student’s talents and personalized style. The students will work
individually, as well as with the entire group. Each student will
take developing individual solos for performance. Students are
responsible for bringing their own music and will be graded on their
participation. The student’s final will consist of a solo
demonstrating vocal technique. This course can be taken to satisfy
a Humanities requirement, and may be repeated for credit.
